Transitional and Temporary Shelters

This is a transitional semi-permanent and rapidly constructed building which provides a uniquely universal shelter solution.

Originally developed to protect UK shorelines against erosion and which later achieved international recognition in military and civil operations across the world, these shelters are ideally suited to provide optimum protection and comfortable living space for people against the potentially devastating after effects of any disaster.

The unique, design of this shelter utilises this readily available material, natural or engineered - from rocks to rubble, sand to gravel, soil to cement. It has great versatility and is able to adapt to most moderate ground contours. The combination of its polypropylene geotextile skin and the natural properties of the fill material ensures ventilation and waterproofing and facilitates thermal regulation in all climates.

Experience in recent years has shown that successful disaster response is achieved by involving those who have been directly affected. The design of these shelters actively encourages those affected to participate in clearing the land and using the salvaged debris to build new shelters for themselves as well as other essential buildings such as medical centres, command centres, food stores, community centres and schools.

Solutions provided in Haiti

Recently our units have been constructed in Haiti and Chile, helping out local communities rebuild after the devastating earthquakes that has affected hundreds of thousands of people in January and February.

Several shelters are being used as child safe areas and schools for local children who are trying to store some normality back to their lives and they will now be able to attend school every day and help themselves to a brighter future.

Located in different areas around Haiti the transitional shelters have been accepted enthusiastically by the local communities.
